Irlam Sanctuary |
Leave the M60 Motorway at junction 2, Take the A57 towards Cadishead. At the junction of the A57 and B5320 take the B5320 to Irlam, look for Fiddlers Lane and Irlam Library on the righthand side, Silver Street is just past the library. Turn into Silver street, pass Cutnook Lane, Lyndhurst Avenue ( there are two as it is a loop) and Pennistone Close, the sanctuary is just past the vets surgery. Details of Irlam area (29Kb) |
Littleborough Sanctuary, |
Leave the M62 motorway at junction 21, take the A663 signposted to Milnrow, turn right onto the B6225 to Hollingworth Lake and then on to Littleborough, take a right turn onto the A58 Halifax Road, look for the Moorcock Inn on the lefthand side of the road. Swaindrod Lane runs by the side of the Moorcock Inn, follow Swaindrod Lane to the end to reach the sanctuary. Details of Littleborough area (37Kb) |
Public Transport, |
Both sanctuaries can be reached by public transport, railway stations are situated in Irlam and Littleborough and there are bus services from both stations to close to the sanctuaries. |
Irlam - The bus service number 67 runs from Manchester to Cadishead and back every 10 minutes, via Salford, Eccles and Irlam, get off at Irlam Library walk to Silver Street and walk from the main road to just past the vets surgery. Service number 100, runs from Shudehill Interchange Manchester to Warrington Bus Interchange and back every hour, it stops close to Irlam Post Office and it is just a short walk to Silver Street and to the sanctuary. |
Littleborough - Leave the railway station and head toward the town centre, passing the Cooperative store turn left into Church street, about 50 yards on the right is the bus stop for the Halifax bus, service number 528 (every 2 hours at 2 minutes to the hour from 0958) which will take you to the Moorcock Inn, where it stops at the car park. To the right of the car park is Swaindrod lane, follow this for about a mile (follow the signs) to reach the sanctuary. |
Travel on trains and buses in the Greater Manchester area can be made with a Wayfarer ticket and a group of four (only two adults) can travel for £11.00 all day. Senior citizen, child and single adult tickets are also available. Wayfarer tickets can be bought from many Post Offices, staffed railway stations and bus station travelshops.
