Hi,
I have been given permission to put a copy of this letter on our sites.
Halifax school helps “Animals in Distress”
Every now and again a good idea surfaces and when it involves educating children to the benefit of deserted and distressed pets you know it is a matter worth reading about. Our company is determined to make life better for these animals and with the assistance of children - whom we have found, are extremely excited at being involved – we want to help eradicate the “bought without thought” mentality which has created havoc in sanctuaries all over the country. The credit crunch has accentuated the problem, with animals being deserted in droves, so help is desperately needed now to rescue them from their plight.
It is so important to help children understand the effort, commitment and expense necessary to look after and care for animals throughout their lives. With added knowledge of food, vet and equipment bills needed on a regular basis, they would think twice before begging parents to purchase a pet requiring so much money to keep them. Ellie Cowton and Fern Coll of Brooksbank School in Elland visited our rescued Shetland pony and having witnessed the appalling state we found him in, wanted to help our company’s aim “with a hands on approach”, in making a difference to other animals suffering a similar fate.
Due to their effort, Brooksbank School have joined our “Please give an animal a meal” campaign, thanks mainly to an assembly presentation containing photos of the sanctuary and the work carried out there. All the children are joining in, donating tins or packets of food, clean old towels, blankets and horse rugs, which I am taking to the sanctuary. With children actually carrying food into school I believe it will give them a sense of pride in helping those in need and will be a useful lesson as to what is involved in the up keep of pets.
This will release money from the sanctuary’s food budget to fund repair and renovation work, which is also in desperate need of attention. People are usually wary at giving money to charities so we thought this would be a refreshing and educating approach to resolve a problem that may have been disregarded. If other Schools or businesses would like to join in our campaign, by collecting food, or indeed offering their time, by either helping out with duties at the sanctuary or towards the building and renovation work, we would urge you to contact us or the sanctuary via our website. We know they will be welcomed with open arms and in turn we will add them to our links page and who knows what might develop from there.
With so much bad publicity kids are enduring these days, it’s a great pleasure to witness “Brooksbank school” leading the way for the country (and maybe the world) as a showcase for children at their best, devoting their generosity and kindness towards abandoned, unwanted pets. It is our wish that this campaign goes nationwide, which will then have a significant impact in relieving the pain of long suffering pets and help in their rehabilitation at sanctuaries like “Animals In Distress” Charity reg. No. 515886.
When re-launching my company earlier this year, it occurred to me that I make my living out of selling products for animals so why not give something back to help the less fortunate ones. In addition to our company’s pledge in giving 10% of any profit to “Animals in Distress” we have already organised various works in connection with the new reptile house. The electrical installation will be completed next week as will the ventilation system. Plumbing from the main building commences this weekend and will be completed together with a hot water installation the week after.
The next urgent task is making good of the big barn, which houses around 30 horses, where rotting support posts are making the structure dangerous. It will not survive another winter, so as a start I have designed a polo “T” shirt that will be on Sale from Friday 3rd July. All proceeds are going towards this project which we hope will generate enough revenue to re build it. We will be selling these at the Halifax show and via our website http://www.stable-environment.co.uk All our activities are detailed on there plus our products with glossy humorous cartoon characters, which are leaders in the market. Please spare just a few minutes to view what we as a company are committing to this worthwhile cause, for if we can obtain your help, by publishing an article in support of our campaign, I know our crusade will gather pace and together we really can make a difference in helping these animals live a life we all wish them to have.
Yours sincerely
